About
I’m Alex. A 33 year old photographer from Nottingham.
The name ACOM comes from the initials of myself, my partner Charley, our sausage dog Olive and our beautiful daughter, Maisie.
The Story of ACOM Photography
I’ve been fascinated by photography for as long as I can remember, but it was in 2018 that I began to develop my own unique style and discovered the possibility of turning my passion into a career. At the time I was running a small mobile catering business and noticed the correlation between the quality of images I used to showcase my story and products and the improvement this had on exposure, interest, engagement and ultimately business performance. I realised I could use my expertise to help other businesses in my industry. Experiencing the results first hand and receiving feedback from my first clients gave me the confidence to take the leap and pursue a career in photography, which really was a dream come true for me.
Style & Approach
My documentary style of photography, made from a thoughtful combination of composition, lighting, colours, subtle placement of props and angles enable my images to leave a deeper impression and resonate more with viewers. On top of capturing the essentials, this style enables me to help you showcases the subtle details, the real moments, the human interactions and the values that make you and your story so unique. This storytelling approach helps in building the identity of a brand, connecting with customers and sets to create something that your audience wants to be a part of. People may already want your products and services, but you want them to want your products and services from you.
Equally as important is my laid back approach. I understand how demanding running a business or hosting an event can be which is why I offer an easy going approach with minimal disruption. At most I may guide things slightly or strategically reposition things, but I’ll remain unobtrusive, capturing the honest, authentic moments naturally which aids my documentary style of photography whilst also ensuring I won’t interrupt your flow. Think of me as a 6ft4 fly on the wall.
Although I mostly work alongside businesses, my skills and techniques are flexible and can be used in other settings including weddings, events and more.
Away from Photography
We all love a bit of down time - and my interests lie in travelling with my family (Cornwall and Southern Spain being our favourites - also love a good cruise, great with kids!), exploring nature and anywhere outdoors, and, when my daughter allows me the privilege, getting stuck into a good book. I’m also a big football fan, mostly from the sofa these days but I still manage to go and watch the greatest team the world has ever seen a few times a year (Forest, obviously!)
